Dee Stricker’s Keto Transformation Story:
I’ve been a fitness coach for almost 10 years now and played hockey for 23 years. I’ve had many ups and downs over the past couple of years regarding my weight and mental health. I was dealing with depression (no medical treatment) due to some business failures and health issues. During that time I discovered keto through a food pic post that Dr. Jacob Wilson made on his @themusclephd Instagram profile. I started researching it and figured it is worth a try.
I needed something where I could feel in control again.
So August 1, 2016, I started participating in a keto diet challenge and was part of a Facebook group to support that challenge. 90 days later I felt amazing and just kept going. I already lost more at that point than with any other diet before. I tried low carb, paleo, Weight Watchers, pretty much anything. I love a lot of keto foods out there so it was just perfect for me. I travel quite a bit and even that is very manageable. I bring my own food most of the time and that’s key. I learned to always be prepared.
Finally, I was able to see muscle once that layer of fat came off and for the first time ever I actually felt that I look like a fitness coach. Now other women tell me they envy my figure and they see me as an idol or inspiration.
That is just crazy to me but of course, I’m super grateful! Physically I have also been able to go off my thyroid medication as my thyroid now functions much better. My whole metabolism works so much better. Also, my blood work has shown great improvements in triglycerides which went way down. I have crazy energy during my workouts. I like to weight lift or do HIIT before my first meal of the day. This was unthinkable before keto. I dropped more than 30 pounds and kept them off.
My self-esteem has gone up big time. I feel gut, healthy and sexy again and I love setting an example for others. I hope to put out my own keto cookbook in German (I reside in Cologne, Germany) and make more people over here aware of this way of eating. At the gym where I work at already, some ladies have switched to a ketogenic lifestyle because they saw my success and learned about this way of eating from me and this makes me incredibly proud!
What is the best advice you would give someone looking to transform their life on keto?
Drink your electrolytes, be very patient, take measurements of your abs/thighs/upper arms, do your research and try to get creative in the kitchen. Meal preparation is key. Get rid of all of the junk in your house and create a list of meals to cook for the week and shop/prep accordingly. And dial back on exercise intensity until your energy levels have adjusted.
What is your favorite part of being keto?
I love how I can finally see muscle, no longer having cravings, being able to go without food for a long period of time and the increase in energy. Besides the community is awesome. I was also able to go off my thyroid medication.
