When did you notice that your health was becoming an issue?
When I reached the heaviest weight I had ever been in my life (178 pounds), and that was no excuse due to pregnancy as my youngest is twelve years old.
I was in a job I didn’t enjoy, living out of a suitcase, and eating processed food on the daily. I felt completely trapped inside this life and food was the only comfort I started to lean on. This was not who I was and I knew something had to change fast!
What was your light bulb or “that’s enough” moment that sparked your keto weight loss transformation?
I knew that on January 1, 2018, I was going to make the commitment to myself as a New Year’s resolution to try this thing called “keto.” I really had no idea if it would work. To be honest, I figured I would be like all the others who make resolutions and never stick it out. BUT not this time.
The first two weeks were very hard but also very eye opening to see how addicted I was to sugar and carbs. I felt ashamed I let myself get to this place and that was the motivation to keep going.
Which diet plans did you try before the ketogenic diet?
I never really tried diets. I never worried about what I ate as I was (what I thought to be) skinny and healthy most of my life. It wasn’t until my age caught up-to me and the years of being 20 and eating anything were long gone. I realized that with a high stress job, food becomes an easy comfort.
What makes the ketogenic diet different for you?
Keto for me was easy. I stumbled the first four to six weeks as it was a change in meal planning and having the right food in the house, but after that it was easy.
Knowing what you can and can’t eat and tracking with my app made it so simple. After about a year and losing 30 pounds, I was able to track less as I knew what portions I could have and what foods to avoid. Now it’s just my way of living. I do not think of it as a diet.
How has your health changed?
I was 178 pounds when I started and as of today, I am at 138 pounds. I am still working toward my goal weight of 130 pounds and I have recently started using exogenous ketones to help me get the last bit of weight off.
Did you have a moment where you wanted to quit?
Ah, I wanted to quit twenty times, especially on vacations (that was the hardest in the beginning). It was summer months, barbecues, and parties that made it hard. But once I got through my first few situations, I learned to manage it. Now, almost 2 years later, I would never quit.
What did it feel like to accomplish your keto weight loss transformation?
I am happy with where I am. It’s not 100% my goal weight BUT I have learned the number on the scale does define my happiness and my energy levels. I honestly feel like I am 25 again. I am at the weight I was when I got married and feel amazing. More importantly I love myself again. I never realized with a transformation like this how much changes internally not just physically.
How has your life changed since you hit your goal?
My life is mine again. No more hiding my body, worried about what my back fat looks like and always taking 200 pictures for one good one. I just love me, and I love that I put myself first!
