Age: 29
How long have you been following a ketogenic diet? 2 years
What is your favorite keto meal? Keto lasagna
Why did you start keto?
I started the Keto diet because I hear it might help with migraines. I have been a migraine patient since I was 2 years old and nothing has helped me except strong painkillers. Over time I have developed migraines with aura and threw up several times during a migraine attack. The attacks became more frequent and the addiction to painkillers worse and worse. At the age of 6 or 7, I was treated in a headache clinic. They also started nutritional therapy there. It turned out that a low-carb, high-fat diet significantly reduced my attacks. I kept to the diet with the help of my parents until I reached puberty. After that, I neglected my diet and my migraines came back. It wasn’t until I went back on a strict keto diet that my health improved.
At first I incorporated keto phases into my life every now and then, but since the beginning of 2022, I’ve been living completely ketogenic and haven’t had a single migraine attack since then. This diet has allowed me to live a normal life without pain and constant vomiting.
What was the hardest part of keto and how did you overcome it?
The hardest part of the keto diet was beating my sugar addiction.
Biggest changes in your day-to-day life?
The biggest change in my life is, of course, that I no longer have migraines. But also that I no longer have food cravings thanks to the ketogenic diet and my constant mood swings have disappeared.
Best tip for newbies?
Ban all non-keto foods from your kitchen. Even the last packet of pasta in the cupboard must disappear. You will grab it in a weak minute!
If there is one thing that you could tell yourself when first getting started, what would it be and why?
Drink electrolytes! This can save you from keto flu, headaches and other side effects during the transition.
Anything you would like to add about your story? Please do!
A change of diet is a process and not a competition. Failures and regressions are part of it and, in my opinion, normal!
