How long have you been following a ketogenic diet? 2 years
What is your favorite keto meal? Keto Lasagna
Why did you start keto?
Since 2016 I struggled with losing weight due to many failed attempts of different diets that I had tried. Nothing seemed to work, I would “eat healthy,” work out and drink plenty of water, but NOTHING seemed to work.
At the beginning of this year I started to notice how my weight was slowly effecting my health. I began to have back problems, trouble breathing and I was tired all the time!
Once I went to the doctor in April and weighed in, I knew it was time to find something that was going to work for me and that is when I found out about the ketogenic diet.
I started keto April, 25, 2020 and I can honestly say that it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made as far my weight loss journey. When I began my transition I only ate low-carb and high protein and healthy fats. I stopped eating bread COMPLETELY, no more pasta, chips, candy, fried foods and my only fluid intake has been water, Sparkling ICE (if I want something with a little flavor) and almond milk. I eat more veggies now and I snack a lot on strawberries, Greek yogurt and keto approved snacks.
I started off weighing 244 lbs and as of today I am currently 170 lbs. With hard, dedication and consistency I have managed to lose 80+ lbs and I have never felt better!!!
What was the hardest part of keto and how did you overcome it?
The hardest part during my transition was giving up potatoes and chips! Before keto I was an emotional eater and whenever I would feel any emotion other than happy I would order two large fries or go to the nearest gas station and get two big bags of Hot Fries until I realized that that coping mechanism was hindering my progress so I found other alternatives for my cravings.
Biggest changes in your day to day life?
The biggest changes in my day to day life would be my eating habits and workout routine. I don’t eat to get full anymore and I am not as hungry as I once was. I eat enough to nourish my body and I workout at least 4-5x a week.
Best tip for newbies?
The best tip for newbies would be STAY CONSISTENT! No matter how hard it may be or feel the first few days during the transition once you get past that your body and mind will feel 100x better and you will so happy that you chose the ketogenic lifestyle!
If there is one thing that you could tell yourself when first getting started, what would it be and why?
Mmmm, I would tell myself to leave the potatoes and chips alone! I could’ve made it to my goal weight a lot sooner if I wouldn’t have let my cravings slow down my process, but I am glad I went through that phase because without it I wouldn’t have realized how important the journey would be for me!
