keto snacks for quarantine

For most carb-loving individuals, quarantine snacks consist of items like potato chips, bread, cookies, popcorn, and ice cream. These are the groceries that are nearly depleted in stores across America but, lucky for you, you’re keto. You’re sticking to high-quality snacks and since most Americans aren’t, that means there are more left on the shelves for you. Whole Foods

Meats

While most people prepare for quarantines similar to a weather disaster, one key thing separates the two: the preservation of power. In cases of natural disasters like hurricanes, blizzards, and earthquakes, power may be lost for days so it is not recommended that you stock up on foods that require a refrigerator. On the positive side, this is not the case for quarantines, so make sure to stock up on lots of meats. Protein is important for maintaining strong immune health so be sure to have your favorite protein sources on hand. Our recommendations are:

  • Stew Meat (beef chuck or ground meat that is perfect for stew– try making a bone broth beef stew with it!)
  • 73% lean ground beef (or 80/20 if you can’t find 73%)
  • Organ meats (liver, kidney, heart)
  • Chicken thighs
  • Salmon

Dairy

Again, similar to meats, no need to fear to have plenty of dairy in your fridge during a viral crisis. Here are some dairy products we recommend having on hand:

  • Pasture-raised eggs
  • No-sugar-added greek yogurt
  • Heavy cream
  • Unsweetened nut milks (not technically dairy but, can be found in the dairy section)
  • Cheese

Note: Cheeses are a great versatile option to stock up on! They cooked into breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, a snack, or eaten all on their own. Aged, sharp cheeses make for the perfect snack, whereas soft cheeses like cream cheese and Mascarpone are perfect for desserts.

Pantry

If you get the urge to bake while under quarantine, you’ll want to stock up on the best keto pantry items. We recommend covering your bases with low-carb flours, sweeteners, and chocolate (because if you don’t use it for baking, you can eat it as a snack!). Here are some pantry staples we recommend:

Produce / Fruits & Veggies

Fruits and vegetables are rich in micronutrients and antioxidants to help boost your body’s natural immune system. Here are some of our top recommended keto fruits and vegetables:

  • Asparagus
  • Avocados
  • Blackberries
  • Blueberries
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Cauliflower (mashed cauliflower or cauliflower rice are also a great alternative)
  • Garlic
  • Mushrooms
  • Raspberries
  • Spinach
  • Strawberries
  • Zucchini

Nuts & Seeds

Nuts and seeds are not only a great source of fats but, they are packed full of protein and micronutrients. Make sure to be extra cautious when buying pre-packed nuts and seeds at the store! Many have hidden sugars, so avoid any with maltodextrin, dextrose, cane sugar, or regular sugar in the ingredient list! Our favorite keto nuts/seeds are:

Fats/ Oils

Whether you are frying up some delicious food or adding a little fat to your coffee, fats, and oils are an often forgotten grocery item when stocking up the pantry. Some of our favorite keto fats and oils include:
