How long have you been following a ketogenic diet? 4 years

Why did you start keto?
Blood sugar problems that were causing many symptoms, including anxiety.
What was the hardest part of keto and how did you overcome it?
Low blood sugar in the beginning. I quickly learned that eating an avocado would stabilize my blood sugar due to the healthy fats.
Biggest changes in your day-to-day life?
Not snacking and eating sweets throughout the day.
Best tip for newbies?
Shift your mindset. The goal should be to get healthy, not just lose weight. Losing weight is a side effect of getting healthy!
If there is one thing that you could tell yourself when first getting started, what would it be and why?
Give it time for your body to learn how to burn a different source for fuel. I experienced some side effects that made me want to quit. After I powered through them, it was so worth it. I feel my best when I eat low-carb now.
Anything you would like to add about your story?
Keeping a food journal is key for me. Sometimes I “forget” why I started the keto diet. If I go off and start eating sugar, thinking that’s okay for me, I quickly get pretty sick. It’s helpful to look at my food journal as a reminder that I simply cannot handle sugar and carbs like a lot of people can.
